Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan proses penciptaan Tari Junjungan Buay Puun di Kota Metro sebagai tari kreasi baru yang merepresentasikan identitas budaya masyarakat multikultural. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara mendalam, observasi, dokumentasi, dan studi dokumen. Informan penelitian meliputi koreografer, penari, dan pemusik yang terlibat dalam proses penciptaan tari. Analisis data mengacu pada teori proses penciptaan tari Y. Sumandiyo Hadi yang mencangkup tahap eksplorasi, improvisasi, dan komposisi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses penciptaan Tari Junjungan Buay Puun berlangsung secara dinamis dan tidak linear. Pada tahap eksplorasi, koreografer memperoleh rangsang ide, kinestetik, visual dan audio yang bersumber dari realitas sosial budaya masyarakat Kota Metro. Tahap improvisasi dilakukan melalui pengembangan gerak secara spontan, berdasarkan pengalam tubuh dan kreativitas koreografer. Selanjutnya, tahap komposisi meliputi penyusunan gerak serta pengolahan unsur pendukung tari, seperti tema, iringan, tata rias, tata busana, properti dan pola lantai. Proses penciptaan tersebut menghasilkan karya tari yang merefleksikan nilai penghormatan, keterbukaan, dan keharmonisan dalam kehidupan masyarakat Kota Metro.
This study aims to describe the creative process of the Junjungan Buay Puun Dance in Metro City as a new dance creation representing the cultural identity of a multicultural society. This research employed a qualitative method. Data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, documentation, and document studies involving the choreographer, dancers, and musicians participating in the dance creation process. The data analysis referred to Y. Sumandiyo Hadi’s theory of dance creation, which includes the stages of exploration, improvisation, and composition. The findings reveal that the creative process of the Junjungan Buay Puun Dance was dynamic and non-linear. During the exploration stage, the choreographer gained ideational, kinesthetic, visual, and auditory stimuli derived from the socio-cultural realities of the people Metro City. The improvisation stage was carried out through spontaneous movement development based on the choreographer’s bodily experience and creativity. Furthermore, the composition stage involved arranging movements and organizing supporting dance elements, including theme, musical accompaniment, make-upp, costume, properties, and floor patterns. This creative process resulted in a dance work that reflects the values of respect, openness, togetherness, and harmony within the multicultural community of Metro City.
